This's a very good hibachi place. Good selection of vegetables and proteins. We loved the sushi all you can eat buffet, included in the price also salad bar. Service was friendly. Ambiance was a typical Asian restaurant but cleaner than most of them. Music was nice even though was Pop Asian, which we did not understand, but pleasant. I can't give them five stars because selection of desserts was less than any Chinese buffet aka real bad. Since the food was very good I want to give them a try. :( For 24 dollars 2 dinners freshly prepared I think it's a great deal.

Okay so I was confused by all the different reviews about what kind of a restaurant it is. This is exactly how is works: They have 4 different bars 1) Salad + dessert buffet 2) Sushi buffet 3) Hot buffet 4) Grill buffet So when you enter they give you a plate and you fill it with anything you want from the Grill Buffet (raw steak, chicken, shrimp, veggies, sauces... And so on). You then give them your plate and you chose to mix it with either noodles or rice for them to cook with. At this point you can get as much food as you want from the other 3 buffets. NOTE: the Hot buffets is pretty much fried food (chicken, shrimp scallops, french fries... And so on) In like 10-15 min your plate comes and you realize you took way too much from the open buffet because of the huge plate they bring you. Honestly for 13,50$, I would have said that it was really good if the sushi wasn't so bad! It was just weird. I LOVE sushi and I usually don't mind the second tier taste of buffet sushi but this was BAD. I can see people wanting to regularly go to this restaurant for the grill but because I went there for the sushi I don't think I will be going back. PS: just got the fried shrimp from the Hot Buffet. It was okay I guess.

Food is overpriced! Food is overcooked ! Flavor is nonexistent! You come In for the buffet they tell you it is only one price $11.59. Dinner buffet Hibachi, hot bar, sushi & salad buffet $11.59 This is not Hibachi! Very misleading This is stir fry! You are given a small metal bowl to put vegetables & meat in. You can choose rice or noodles to add to your stir fry. In stir fry All-you-can-eat, you get to take all stir fry that is made for you, home. This establishment does NOT do that. The food at the hot bar has been sitting under the warmer for some time. Not to appetizing. The sushi, is nothing to rave about. Like the hot bar food, it has been sitting plated, for some time. When the check was brought so was a punch card. I told her I will not be needing that, because I will not be coming back.

Disregard the old reviews. This place has converted into a hibachi and sushi buffet. I guess the food is the same. The hibachi was really good. The sushi was standard buffet style but passed my instant gratification needs. The way things work here is neat. You sit down and they bring you a card and a bowl. You fill out the card with your name and rice/noodle choice and then fill the bowl up at the "fresh bar." it is a good selection. All you would expect and more for meats and fresh veggies. Mine was cooked perfectly and tasted legitimately fresh. They have about a dozen items on the rest of the buffet that are some variety of a fried finger food meat and then 6 more plates of sushi and a salad bar. Price was 8.50 for lunch and 10.50 for dinner. Not sure I see the dinner value, but I ate my worth for lunch. Give it a shot of you don't want 900 buffet options from other places or if you need to gorge near Tanger.

2.5 Decent restaurant, but nothing fancy. I was hoping to get some ramen, but all they had were typical foods like sushi and bento boxes. Good nonetheless, but nothing to write home about. Just a Yelp review.

Pretty good food! However customer service could be better and the fact that you have to pay $3 extra to take home your one bowl of hibachi gives it only 4 stars.

We found this place in the Restaurant.com list and decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the staff when we entered. The staff was very helpful in answering our questions about the menu items. The food was excellent with very generous portions for a very good price. We had the Hibachi chicken and steak and Amy also had a Philadelphia Roll & and a Spicy salmon roll and we enjoyed it all. We had a nice discussion with the general manager Jay about the restaurant and how long it had been there. My wife works right down there but had not noticed the place. He said it had been there about 5 months. They have delivery and take out. We'll definitely be going back.

I'm staying at the Embassy Suites and wanted some Sushi. It was between this and Sake House. I looked at both menus and decided to go with Taste of Tokyo as the price seemed more reasonable. I received two rolls and a piece of cheesecake for less than $20. Took it back to the Embassy and enjoyed with a glass of wine. I couldn't even finish the two rolls. Going to have to eat the cheesecake tomorrow. Very good. Highly recommend it.

This place has a bit of a weird concept for an Asian 'buffet' style restaurant. When you come in for lunch, you're told that the lunch special, or whatever, lets you get one bowl of food at the grill, then unlimited hot and cold items. The grill items are basically like getting lo mein or fried rice, and you can add veggies and meats/seafood, as you wish. The bowls are a decent size, but you're basically constrained to getting either rice or noodles. You can buy another bowl, but I'm not sure that the $3 or so that they charge for a second bowl is worth it, just for a different starch. On the hot side, they've got some regular Asian staple foods, but none of them were particularly appetizing looking. The soup was good, and they have plenty of accouterments to add, like tofu, scallions, and seaweed. The cold bar is half salad bar, and half sushi bar, almost exclusively maki rolls, typically containing imitation crab or fish of unknown type. It was ok. I've had better, and I've had worse. The grill food was very good, though. Everything had a nice sear, and was well prepared. I would still have liked to have a bowl of fried rice with my noodles, though...

They don't have the fried rice you get at a teppanyaki grill nor do they have the mustard you get at these places either. They do have some pretty good sauces though. I think the place is in a bad location as it seems that there is never a huge number of people there. Not sure if I would go back but the food was just ok. The food was just good.

Average, at best. The 1 time hibatchi bowl was pretty good, but the unlimited "hot bar" and sushi bar were underwhelming.

I ate there a couple of times during my stay here in Charleston. Good service and good food consistency, the kitchen is clean and the employees are very polite..you get what you pay for. I won't recommend their sushi though. We had it and it was not fresh. I had the California roll.. It was pre made. Chicken teriyaki bowl, hibachi chicken bowl, shrimp tempura and the cheese roll were all good. Oh and the steak bowl was good too

The sushi here is similar in quality/taste to Publix sushi which is not a bad thing. I cannot comment on the teriyaki dishes since we picked up a spicy crab, spicy tuna, and a California roll. The crab and tuna was a salad mixture with crunchy tempura, not quite what I was expecting but still tasty. I would give this place another go if I was in the area.

This place is outstanding. You get one bowl of Hibachi and ALL YOU CAN EAT SPRING ROLLS, salad and hot bar. Food was delicious, service was prompt and very nice. Awesome!

My husband and I regularly come here for lunch and dinner too. It's perfect for what it is and they have fantastic prices. They serve sushi, and hibatchi as well. I normally get the bento box which comes with a sushi roll, rice, edamame, and teriyaki chicken. It's more than enough to fill me up and it's quite tasty. The sushi is small but great for the price, and I've never had an issue with quality or flavor. My husband gets the Hibatchi Chicken bowl every time he goes in and inhales it. The chicken is fresh and they use white meat. They give you a fair portion of rice veggies and chicken too. The atmosphere is nice and simple. Taste of Tokyo is just a great fast food joint, where you can get some quick, quality Japanese food, without spending hours and a lot of money. Oh and they have these little mango candies at the register that are so yummy! Love it and will be back for more soon! :)

Stopped in for an early dinner. The Hibachi was great and the hot and cold buffet bars were awesome. Definitely coming back.

Good teriyaki chicken for a fast food place. Sushi was a good as expected for a fast food place - average to fair. Miso soup is delicious here & served nice and hot. Udon noodles with shrimp is very good here. Been here a few times now & it's been consistently good.

So I am new to the Charleston area. I've been here for 4 months and FINALLY received a sushi delivery menu in my mail. I had just been talking about how the only place I've eaten sushi is downtown. So that's the pleasant part of my review. They deliver. When I ordered once, it was pretty quick delivery and everything was decent. Not amazing, but it cured my sushi craving. And on to the negative...I tried ordering tonight (which actually prompted my Yelp profile just to bring this to attention). I placed my order online for delivery around 8:15pm. I received a voicemail around 8:45pm (my house doesn't have great service, sometimes I just get the voicemail) notifying me that they "do not deliver to my area after dark, and please call back if I'd like to pick it up." Do not deliver after dark? To my area?? I am so tempted to call back and say "Guuuurl. I'm from Baltimore. BALTIMORE. Have you seen the Wire? There is NOTHING wrong with this area. NOTHING." Seriously, I'm right next to Park Circle and have not experienced one negative thing (even "AFTER DARK"). I'm a night owl and walk my dogs outside on the regular "after dark." Seriously? This one experience is not only making me question ordering from here again, or actually moving FROM CHARLESTON ALTOGETHER. Who is afraid of the dark? The South? Confused...

I happened by this one while in N Charleston. I frequent Japanese Express when I'm out of town. I highly recommend this one! Great service. Very friendly! Cook brought food to my table! Very nice guy! One thing that impressed me was their white sauce which comes in two flavors. Reg and spicy! I was diggin the spicy stuff! Real good! Prices are great and food was very fresh and flavorful! I will def be back! I had the Teriyaki Chkn Bowl! Awesome with those cream cheese rolls! Oh my goodness! Make you slap your granny! They have a sauce bar with all the hot stuff and the good teriyaki sauce, all you want! Love it!

Super fast delivery, awesome teriyaki udon noodles, decadent cream cheese rolls....do NOT order the tacos. I was expecting some protein and Asian slaw packed into a crispy egg roll-ish taco.....it's not...it was dry chicken and veggies rolled in a cold, flour tortilla.

Fake soy sauce? How can a Japanese restaurant that serves sushi only provide disgusting fake soy sauce packets found in Chinese to go bags? I complained and one of the staff brought me real soy sauce from the kitchen which I appreciated. The fact that it is not provided tells me this restaurant does not understand the food that it's serving. Having said that, I had the chicken Bento box, it was good and was comparable to Seasons of Japan. The edamame was served cold which I thought was strange.
